Bedford railway station is the main railway station in the town of Bedford in Bedfordshire, England. It is located on the Midland Main Line from London St Pancras to the East Midlands. It is also the teminus of the Marston Vale line from Bletchley. The station is also known as Bedford Midland, and is situated to the west of the town centre. It is used by a substantial number of commuters to London.
The previous Bedford Midland station was closed in 1978 when the current station opened. The previous station still suffered from war damage when a bomb destroyed the booking hall's glass ceiling. It was approximately 200 yards south of the current station on Ashburnham Road.
Services
The station is served by three operators.- Midland Mainline serve the station as part of their InterCity service from London St Pancras to Leicester, Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield. Services are operated using either High Speed Trains or new Meridian units.
- Silverlink County operate local services from Bletchley to Bedford via the Marston Vale Line. Services are operated using Class 150/1 diesel multiple units.
- First Capital Connect operate regular services to Luton, St Albans, King's Cross Thameslink, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Services are operated by Class 319 electrical multiple units.
- 2 trains per hour (tph) to London St Pancras (Midland Mainline)
- 1 tph to Derby via Kettering, Leicester and Loughborough (Midland Mainline)
- 1 tph to Nottingham via Kettering, Leicester and Loughborough (Midland Mainline)
- 1 tph to Bletchley (Silverlink)
- 4 tph to Brighton via Luton, Luton Airport Parkway, St Albans, London and Gatwick Airport (First Capital Connect)
