Bedwetting alarm
Encyclopedia : B : BE : BED : Bedwetting alarm
A bedwetting alarm is an electronic device which is used to alert children and adults that they are in the process of urination whilst asleep (this is known as nocturnal enuresis). The device is designed in two parts; firstly a pad, which is placed underneath the top sheet of the user's bed, and consists of an open circuit, which is closed upon contact with urine, thereby activating the second part of the device, which is an alarm box, located in such a point that when the alarm sounds, as the pad is activated, the user must get out of bed to deactivate the alarm.
As the user wakes up, they instinctively stop urinating, and get out of bed to switch off the alarm, thereby allowing them sufficient time once out of bed, to empty their bladder.
