Benty Grange helmet

Encyclopedia : B : BE : BEN : Benty Grange helmet

The Benty Grange helmet is an archaeological artefact excavated by Thomas Bateman in 1848 from an Anglo-Saxon tumulus (or barrow) at the Benty Grange farm in Derbyshire, England. It is what remains of an iron helmet with a bronze boar on the crest. This helmet matches the descriptions of warriors' helmets in Beowulf.

The remains and a reconstruction are in the Sheffield City Museum.
