Beragh

Beragh is a village in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is situated approximately eight miles from Omagh with a population of 520 in the 2001 Census.
One of the first references to the village was on a Plantation map of Ireland of 1609. It has a rich historical tradition and is a thriving village where the economy is mainly agriculture based.
Beragh is situated in the Omagh District Council area.
2001 Census
Beragh is classified as a small village or hamlet by the [NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA)] (ie with a population between 500 and 1,000 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 520 people living in Beragh. Of these:
- 28.5% were aged under 16 and 18.1% were aged 60 and over
- 47.5% of the population were male and 52.5% were female
- 62.8% were from a Catholic background and 35.4% were from a Protestant background
- 5.3% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed.
