Encyclopedia : B : BE : BEU : Beurla
Beurla is a Scottish Gaelic term for the English language. The Irish equivalent is "Béarla". The word historically had a meaning along the lines of "cant" or "speech" but has now come to mean English exclusively or, when qualified as "a' Bheurla Gallda" (lit. "The speech of the foreigners/non-Gaels"), the Lowland Scots language.
