Big City Network
Encyclopedia : B : BI : BIG : Big City Network
Big City Network is the name given to a network of Independent Local Radio stations across Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland all owned by EMAP. Since EMAP's acquisition of Metropolitan Broadcasting in 1998 there has been gradual brand integration such as a standard logo and websites. Most stations are primarily focused on youth music and whilst each station is still nominally separate there are an increasing amount of network-wide programmes such as Friday Night Kiss and similar competitions on the different stations. Also some of the Big City Network stations have sister Magic Radio stations broadcast from the same locations.
Some of the former Scottish Radio Holdings have recently been added to the Big City Network, branded as Big City Network Scotland and NI although this is thought to be for ease of advertising and all stations still carry their original logos and programming. West Sound is the only AM station in the network.
