Bishop of Reading

The Bishop of Reading is a suffragan bishop in the Church of England, based in Reading, Berkshire. He is responsible for the archdeaconry of Berkshire, within the Diocese of Oxford.
The current bishop is the Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell. The Reverend Canon Dr (then the Reverend Dr) Jeffrey John was elected to the position in 2003 but refused it after controversy about his homosexuality. The previous bishop, the Right Reverend Dominic Walker, left to become the Bishop of Monmouth after its previous incumbent, The Most Revrend Rowan Williams (who was also the Archbishop of Wales at that time), vacated the see to become the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury.
