- In computer science, bits are binary digits, which may each have the value one or zero.
- BITS or Background Intelligent Transfer Service is a file transfer protocol in Windows Server 2003 and later Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- BITS or BITS Pilani may refer to the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, a premier science and technology university located in India.
- BITS may refer to the Bukarester Idishe Teater Studie, a highly experimental Yiddish theater founded in Bucharest, Romania in 1930.
- BITS was a British television program about computer and video games, hosted by Emily Booth, Aleks Krotoski and Emily Newton Dunn.
- Bits are the detatchable fronts of some screwdrivers or drills.
- BITS also means Business Information Technology Services.
- Bits is also the name of a hermit character in the Octagon series of novels written by Andrew & Shawn Brooks.

- Bits historically were a term for an 1/8th of a Dollar. There used to be a practice of breaking a Spanish dollar coin into 8 individual pieces and the using that for legal tender. "Shave and a haircut, 2 bits".
