BlackRock Inc. NYSE: [BLK] is one of the largest publicly traded investment management firms in the United States with $428 billion in assets under management across fixed income, liquidity, equity, alternative investment, and real estate strategies as of September 30, 2005. BlackRock manages assets on behalf of institutional and individual investors worldwide through a variety of fixed income, equity, liquidity and alternative investment products. In addition, BlackRock provides risk management, investment system outsourcing, and financial advisory services to a wide array of institutional investors and financial institutions through their BlackRock Solutions platform.

Key People

In 2006, BlackRock merged with Merrill Lynch and acquired Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM). It was widely believed that Morgan Stanley, led by new CEO John Mack, was interested in merging with BlackRock until Merrill Lynch stepped in.
