Bob (Twin Peaks)
Encyclopedia : B : BO : BOB : Bob (Twin Peaks)
Bob, often written as BOB, is a malevolent entity in the TV series Twin Peaks, who possesses people and feeds off their "fear and the pleasures". He was played by Frank Silva.
Confusingly, there are two Bobs in the series (the other is Bobby Briggs), and furthermore both are associated with characters called Mike. Such pairings are a characteristic of the series (and alluded to in its title).
Bob possesses people and uses their bodies to murder and rape. He seems to be an evil spirit of some kind, who has a connection to the woods and the owls outside the town. Bob used to have a partner in his killings called Mike (played by Al Strobel), but then Mike "saw the face of God" and was purified. From there on Mike was intent on finding Bob and stopping him.
Bob's victims are not aware that they have been possessed. Laura Palmer's (Sheryl Lee) father Leland (Ray Wise) was possessed by Bob when he was still a boy. Bob/Leland abused Laura sexually and tormented and mutilated her. This eventually leads to Laura allowing herself to be killed, because she knew that her death was the only escape from Bob and the only way to stop Bob from possessing her.
Bob possesses several people during the show, and appears to be able to possess whomever he wishes, provided they let him in. The final episode of the show climaxed with Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) being possessed by Bob.
Bob is clearly a symbol of the evil that can lurk beneath the surface of apparently ordinary people. FBI agent Albert Rosenfield (played by Miguel Ferrer) articulates this at one point, suggesting that BOB is not real, but rather "the evil that men do". {| class="toccolours" align="center" margin: 0 0 1em 1em; width: 25em;" |- style="vertical-align: top;" ! style="background: #BADBAD; text-align: center; font-size: larger;" | Twin Peaks |- style="vertical-align: top;" | align=center | Episodes | |- style="vertical-align: top;" ! style="background: #BADBAD; text-align: center; " | |- style="vertical-align: top;" | align=center | Agent Cooper | Laura Palmer | Sheriff Truman | Donna Hayward | Audrey Horne | The Log Lady | Man from another place | Albert Rosenfield | Deputy Brennan | BOB | Lucy Moran | Leland Palmer | Sarah Palmer | Doc Hayward | Ben Horne | Jerry Horne | The Renault brothers | Josie Packard | Catherine Packard Martell | Pete Martell | Major Briggs | Bobby Briggs | |- style="vertical-align: top;"
