  • La Puebla de Bolibar or Bolíbar (Bolibar in modern Basque spelling) is a small village in Biscay, home of Simón Bolívar's ancestors, and origin of their surname. In the 1960s it was anexionated to the municipality of Marquina (today Markina-Xemein). A local movement asked for its separation and in 30 november 2004, Biscayne local government has approved its independence. Bolívar/Bolibar is to be the capital of the municipality of Ziortza-Bolibar.
  • Basque Country is not named after Bolívar. Rather it is the origin of the Bolívar family.
