Bond 22 is the working title of a future EON Productions' James Bond film to follow the 2006 film, Casino Royale. It will be the twenty-second official film in the James Bond franchise and the second to star Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's British secret agent, James Bond. The film will be produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Pre-production work on Bond 22 was already under way before filming of Casino Royale began in January 2006, according to an announcement by Michael G. Wilson during a news conference in London on October 14, 2005. The script is being written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who previously wrote the screenplays for The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale .

An original story

Since Casino Royale is a reboot of the Bond film franchise, the question has been raised on numerous occasions as to whether future installments would be remakes of previously made films, specifically, a remake of Live and Let Die, Fleming's second novel. According to Barbara Broccoli, Bond 22 and future Bond films for the foreseeable future will not be remakes . It is, however, possible that Bond 22 may receive an unused Ian Fleming title such as "The Hildebrand Rarity", "The Property of a Lady", "Risico", "Quantum of Solace", or "007 in New York," even though plot elements from these short stories (with the exception of "Quantum of Solace") have been used in previous Bond films.

Broccoli also confirmed that Bond 22 would be a continuation of Casino Royale.

2007 release?

There is evidence to suggest that Bond 22 will be released in 2007, rather than a typical 2 year or even 3 year gap. If true, this would mark the first time two Bond films were released in back-to-back years since Live and Let Die (1973) and The Man with the Golden Gun (1974).

Many reports believe this will be done to take advantage of the obvious marketing potential in 2007, 007 being Bond's codename at MI6. The Daily Express, citing inside sources, reported in May 2006 that Bond 22 would indeed be released in 2007. According to the source: "The next one will be in 2007 - Bond's year. It will mean back-to-back shooting but then the next film will pick up where 'Casino Royale' leaves off anyway." . Also, according to a report attributed to the Daily Mail, an executive who is connected with one of the studios behind the Bond franchise said, "They don't want to miss the opportunity of releasing a 007 film in 2007. That's a date made for them." .

Also of note, in May 2006 Activision acquired non-exclusive rights to develop and publish James Bond games; an exclusive deal with Activision takes effect in September 2007. According to Variety, the first game is expected to be a tie-in to Bond 22 . It is expected that Activision's first title will be released around the time when the exclusive deal takes effect.

Crew rumours

Although EON Productions announced that Neal Purvis and Robert Wade would pen Bond 22, a report attributed to the Daily Mail claimed that playwright Tom Stoppard is in talks to join in on writing the script. Stoppard is currently co-writing the script for The Bourne Ultimatum . A July 2006 report by The Hollywood Reporter stated that Bond 22 would be based on an original idea by producer Michael G. Wilson who previously co-scripted every official Bond film between For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Licence to Kill (1989), and that they are looking for a writer to adapt. This contradicts the October 2005 press conference where Wilson stated that Bond 22 would be written by Purvis and Wade.

Roger Michell, known for directing Notting Hill is also said to be currently in contract negotiations to direct per both reports by the Daily Mail and The Hollywood Reporter. Michell has previously worked with Daniel Craig on Enduring Love and The Mother .
