Boob tube

The phrase boob tube has two meanings:

In British English, a boob tube is a woman's top; see tube top (terminology used in UK, South Africa and Australia).
In American and Canadian slang, a boob tube is a television set, normally with a negative or humorous connotation. This usage derives from the definition of "" as a foolish person and "tube" from the television's cathode ray tube. Or also from the American slang of breast "boob" which provides the nursing infant a calming and pacifying effect upon the child.
