Book of Song

Encyclopedia : B : BO : BOO : Book of Song

The Book of Song (; Wade-Giles: Sungshu), is a the historical writing for the Chinese Song of Southern Dynasties covering the history from 420 to 479, and is one of the traditional Twenty-Four Histories. It was authored by Shen Yue from Liang of Southern Dynasties. The book contain 100 volumes when written, but by the Song Dynasty some volumes were already missing. Later editors reconstructed those volumes by taking material from the History of the Southern Dynasties, plus the a few works such as the Historiette of Gao by Gao Jun, though many of the volumes are no longer in its original condition. Modern historians believe that it had glaring problems; one of the problem is that the book maintained a much fogyish attitude and was biased towards the surrounded ethnic groups, including the ruling elites of Northern Wei.
