Boston Brahmin accent
Encyclopedia : B : BO : BOS : Boston Brahmin accent
The Boston Brahmin accent is a New England accent associated with the Boston Brahmin upper social class. Well known personalities with this accent include: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Katharine Hepburn and William F. Buckley, Jr.. This accent has often been heavily parodied, such as the Thurston J. Howell III character on Gilligan's Island. However, it has been steadily dying out over time. Also known as the Locust Valley Lockjaw, the accent is typified by a clipped manner of speaking pronounced with the teeth slightly clenched and the lower jaw thrust forward.
This accent is separate and distinct from the urban blue collar Boston accent.
