What is the Botswana National Front?
Encyclopedia : B : BO : BOT : Botswana National Front
In 1994 13 of its candidates were elected as members National Assembly, for the first time in its history. By this point it had adopted the motto "Time for change". Some of its past leaders are Chief Bathoen, Kenneth Koma and now Otsweletse Moupo. The party operates largely on the ideology of social democracy. Moupo emphasizes the need to help the poor escape from poverty.
There have been a number of internal squables in the party due largely to factionalism. This has led to the splitting of the party a number of times, culminating in the formation of splinter parties such as Botswana Congress Party, whose political ideologies are not appreciably different to that of the BNF.
