A Wesleyan Methodist Chapel was built of local stone in 1858 and is the oldest building in the area. Until the 1950s much of Box Hill North was covered with orchards.

Box Hill North does, however, have numerous roadside strip shopping centres, the two largest are Kerrimuir Shopping Centre, at the intersection of Middleborough Road and Springfield Road, and the Woodhouse Grove & Station Street Shopping Centre at the intersection suggested in its name. Smaller shopping strips are located at Trawool Street and Second Avenue.

Kindergartens include Woodhouse Grove Kindergarten, Box Hill North Primary School Kindergarten and Parkside Pre-School Centre.
