Boyle County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1842. As of 2000, the population was 27,697, with recent estimates of 2005 placing the counties population at 28,363. Its county seat is Danville, Kentucky6. The county is named for John Boyle (1774-1834), Congressman, Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, U.S. District Judge.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 474 km² (183 mi²). 471 km² (182 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.60%) is water.Adjacent counties

As of the census² of 2000, there were 27,697 people, 10,574 households, and 7,348 families residing in the county. The population density was 59/km² (152/mi²). There were 11,418 housing units at an average density of 24/km² (63/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 87.77% White, 9.68% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 10,574 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.70% were married couples living together, 12.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% were non-families. 27.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.10% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.87.
In the county the population was spread out with 22.70% under the age of 18, 11.00% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $35,241, and the median income for a family was $42,699. Males had a median income of $33,411 versus $23,635 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,288. About 9.10% of families and 11.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.80% of those under age 18 and 12.10% of those age 65 or over.
