Brda (German: Brahe) is a river in north-western Poland, a tributary of the Vistula river (near Bydgoszcz), with a length of 238 kilometres (15th longest) and the basin area of 4,627 sq. km. (all in Poland).
Navigation
Brda river is part of the Odra-Wisla waterway, connecting these two rivers via the Warta and Notec rivers and the Bydgoszcz Kanal. The waterway is navigable for modest barges (of CEMT Class II) but with a limited draught.
With the expansion of the European Union to the East, the Odra-Wisla waterway could play an important role. The waterway is a link in the much longer connection with Eastern Europe via the Wisla, Narew, Bug, Mukhovets, Pripyat and Dnjepr rivers, but this connection remains unnavigable due to a dam near the Belarus city of Brest.
Currently, only limited numbers of vessels use the Brda river and the adjacent canal. It is expected that the waterway will be discovered by leisure boaters in the years ahead. (Source: [NoorderSoft Waterways Database)]
