Bree Sharp (born December 17, 1975 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American singer and songwriter influenced by folk, rock, and pop. Her debut album, A Cheap and Evil Girl (1999) contained the popular novelty tune, "David Duchovny." The tough and funny song in which she crooned "David Duchovny, why won't you love me?" is an enduring anthem of celebrity worship, as well as a tribute to the famous X-Files star.

Biography

Bree Sharp was born in Philadelphia, and learned to play guitar by age 15. She graduated from Central High School (Philadelphia). By 17, she had moved to New York City to study theater at New York University (NYU). She would eventually turn to music and, while still in college, began writing the songs that eventually lead to her 1998 record deal with Trauma Records in.

In 1999, she released her first album, A Cheap and Evil Girl, to strong critical reviews. The album's first single, "David Duchovny," quickly garnered a cult following both for its musical qualities and its tie-in to the popular X-Files. The second single, "America," was, like "David Duchovny," an examination of celebrity in American culture – but a much darker side.

In 2001, Bree Sharp left Trauma Records and her next album, More B.S., was self-released on her own label Ahimsa Records. She would later release one more album, Live at the Fez.

As of September, 2005, Bree Sharp is reportedly working on her third studio album, as well as working as writer on a Fox Saturday morning anime cartoon show entitled Magical DoReMi.
