Brentwood and Ongar is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It is a typical Conservative safe seat. Currently more than half of the electorate supported incumbent MP whilst a significant minority supported eurosceptic UKIP. To those abroad Brentwood and Ongar would be seen as a very Liberal-conservative constituency due to no socialist parties standing nor the Labour Party making any significant gains. Indeed, this is not suprising in an overwhelmingly white electorate in a typical Daily Mail area.
Brentwood & Ongar has an unusually high turnout for such a safe seat. Almost 70% of those eligible to vote did - this can be opposed to seats such as Bethnal Green and Bowe.
