Breukelen

[Breukelen] is a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It is situated along the river Vecht and close to the Loosdrechtse Plassen, an area of lakes and great natural beauty. During the 17th century a number of Amsterdam merchant families built opulent mansions along the river near Breukelen.
The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal passes Breukelen.
Breukelen has a railway station.
Breukelen is a small village north-west of Utrecht. Breukelen has a population of about 11,000.
There is a large Van der Valk hotel, externally in Chinese style.
Universiteit Nyenrode is located in Breukelen.
The New York borough of Brooklyn, New York, USA, is named after Breukelen (see also the "History" section of the Brooklyn article).
