Brian Conley

Encyclopedia : B : BR : BRI : Brian Conley

Brian Conley (born 1961 in Paddington, London, England) is an accomplished British comedian with an "act" fashioned in the tradition of the bow-tied end of the pier entertainer and targeted at the over forties. He originally started his career as a "red coat" before gaining his "break" as a regular turn on the popular ITV1 variety series Live From Her Majesty's which led to him receiving the compliment of being asked to emcee an edition of the (moderately) popular ITV show Summertime Special. His own TV series (This Way Up and the Brian Conley Show) subsequently followed and he also went on to star in his own sitcom Time after Time as well as the light comedy-drama The Grimleys. However, Conley's breakthrough onto the "small screen" coincided with a changing mood and a "shift" by TV chiefs away from traditional wholesale family entertainers towards more controversial (so called "alternative") comedians and performers. He reached a nadir in 2003 with the reprehensible Judgement Day which was promptly dropped after just two episodes having given ITV1 its lowest ever recorded audience share, subsequently little heard from. In February it was announced that Conley is to take the "lead role" in Chitty the Musical at the world famous London Palladium theatre for a 14 week run, commencing in March 2005. Conley is now concentrating more on stage work than television, although he was a stand-by presenter of the UK game show Deal or No Deal, presented by Noel Edmonds.

In 2002 Brian Conley made a cameo in Kurt Wimmer's 2002 Science Fiction film Equilibrium
