Brian Penton

Brian Penton (1904-1951) was an Australian journalist. Born and educated in Brisbane, Queensland. He wrote two novels Landtakers (1934), which chronicles pioneering life in Queensland from 1824-64, and Inheritors (1936). One of the principal characters in these books is said to be based on Patrick Mayne of the Mayne Inheritance.

He was also a political and social commentator with his works:

Brian Penton became Editor of The Daily Telegraph (Australia) in 1933 and continued in this role when Frank Packer bought the newspaper and established Consolidated Press.
