History with Werner Erhard
Transformational Workshops
Brian Regnier began his experience with "Transformational Workshops", through his early associations with Werner Erhard and est :
Regnier's had plenty of practice at changing people's lives and checkbook balances. In 1971, he tells us, he abandoned a career as a computer analyst and started doing transformational workshops. What he means by "transformational workshops" is est, the controversial seminar made popular by former automobile and encyclopedia salesman Werner Erhard, born Jack Rosenberg. Est's 60-hour program shares such defining features with Landmark as buzzwords and long days with few breaks. The difference seems a matter of politeness: Forum participants can go to the bathroom when they want. No one yells here. And no one is obliged, as they were in the '70s, to refer to Erhard or anyone else as "the source."Traci Hukill, The est of Friends, Metroactive, July 9-15, 1998 issue, Metro Publishing Inc. http://www.metroactive.com/landmark/landmark1-9827.html
Sale of Erhard's \"Technology\"
Brian Regnier was involved with the sale of Werner Erhard's "technology" to his former employees in the form of a new corporation called Landmark Education, in 1991 :
In 1991, a group of trusted Erhard aides started Landmark Education, licensed Erhard's "technology" and incorporated in the state of California. Erhard owns no Landmark stock, but Regnier does. One of the founding members of Landmark, Regnier belongs to a select club of insiders--the same group, according to a Landmark case document, who presented est.Traci Hukill, The est of Friends, Metroactive, July 9-15, 1998 issue, Metro Publishing Inc. http://www.metroactive.com/landmark/landmark1-9827.html
The primary source information is reflected in an "Amendment and Restated Articles of Incorporation", signed by Regnier on April 29, 1991 :
On 5/7/91 an Amendment and Restated Articles of Incorporation was filed for Transnational Education Corp. In it Brian Regnier certified that he was the President and Secretary of Transnational. The name was changed to Landmark Education Corporation. Two classes of stock, designated as "Common Shares" and "Preferred Shares", were authorized for a total of 1 million for each class. It further states that the Preferred shares may be issued from time to time in one or more series and "the Board of Directors is authorized to determine or alter the rights, preferences, privileges and restrictions granted to or imposed upon any wholly unissued series of Preferred Shares . . ." There is some additional housekeeping in the document. It was signed 4/29/91 by Brian Regnier.Hesse-Nassau Evangelical Church website, http://www.dike.de/SINUSsekteninfo/lec/history/rename.html
