The 4th Infantry Division was a regular British Army division during the Second World War .

History

The British 4th Infantry Division served during World War II in France in 1940, North Africa and Italy. It fought at the Battle of Monte Cassino. The 4th Division's history traces back to the Battle of Salamanca in 1812 during the Peninsula War.

Currently the 4th Division is a regenerative division that serves as the parent formation for units in the south-east England. Prior to 1992 it was an armoured division serving as part of BAOR.

The division's current insignia is a tiger.
