Britt Allcroft is the founder of The Britt Allcroft Company (aka, Gullane Entertainment) which was acquired by Hit Entertainment in 2002. Allcroft is well known for her creation of the children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and its US counterpart Shining Time Station. She was the screenwriter and director of the motion picture spinoff of Thomas the Tank Engine called Thomas and the Magic Railroad. She also created the TV show Magic Adventures of Mumfie, which is a show about a magical elephant.

After the movie was poorly received by critics and floundered at the box office; Allcroft was ousted from Gullane in May 2000 but remained as a director and advisor. In 2003 (after Gullane was acquired by HIT), Allcroft resigned from her remaining positions with the company.
