Brooks Atkinson Theatre
Encyclopedia : B : BR : BRO : Brooks Atkinson Theatre
The Brooks Atkinson Theater is a Broadway theatre. It is located at 256 West 47th Street.
Built in 1929 by the Chanin brothers, from a design by Herbert J. Krapp. After 1933, the theatre fell into relative disuse, until 1960, when it was renamed the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for the former New York Times theatre critic.
Currently, the theatre houses the amazingly sold-out revival of The Odd Couple starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. Though it received rather poor reviews, the show continues to play to packed houses, due to the fame of the two stars. The show enjoyed some of the most impressive pre-opening ticket sales of any show in recent history, with the possible exception of Three Days of Rain, which starred Julia Roberts, and was completely sold out prior to opening.
Other notable recent productions include the revival of Medea starring Fiona Shaw, Noises Off with Patti Lupone and Peter Gallagher and the ill-fated musical version of Jane Eyre.
