Buffy comics

Encyclopedia : B : BU : BUF : Buffy comics

Introduction

These were published by Dark Horse, originally in comic format but then gathered into volumes of trade paperbacks. They were published from 1998 until 2004. A small number of Buffy comics have not been included in trade paperbacks. These include the comics: "Giles", "Johnathon", and "Reunion".

The cover art of the individual comic covers can be seen here.

There has also been an unofficial parody - a sexually explicit satirical graphic novel, Boffy the Vampire Layer, which was not officially licensed as Buffy merchandise by 20th Century Fox. It was published by Eros Graphic Albums in 2002.

Canonical issues

The vast majority of Buffy comics featured in this list are not part of Buffyverse canon. That means they are not considered as official Buffyverse reality, but are stories from the writers' imaginations. However, all of these stories have been licensed as official Buffy the Vampire Slayer merchandise. Furthermore the overall concept for each Buffy story had to be accepted by Joss Whedon (or his office), who did not want these stories to venture too far from his original intentions. A few of the comics were written by members of Mutant Enemy Productions such as Jane Espenson and Doug Petrie.
