Bukovac

Bukovac (Буковац) is a village located in the Petrovaradin municipality, one of two municipalities of Novi Sad City in Serbia, in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The village is geographically located in Srem, but it is part of South Bačka District.
Geography and population
Bukovac is located on the brows of Fruška Gora mountain, and it is part of the metropolitan area of Novi Sad. The village has a Serb ethnic majority and its population is 3,595 people. Bukovački potok (Bukovac Stream) flow through the village.
History and culture
The village was founded during the Ottoman rule in the 16th century by the Serb settlers. There is a Serb Orthodox church from 1808 in the village.
Famous people
- Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja (1830-1878), a literate. She was born in Bukovac.
