Burnley is a constituency based on the town of Burnley represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Boundaries

A Labour seat for decades, they did come close to losing in 1983,holding on by just under 800 votes, and a preponderance of other political parties and protest action groups here in 2005 led to a large dip in the Labour vote, and a useful swing to the Lib-Dems.

Boundary review

Following its review of parliamentary representation in Lancashire, the Boundary Commission for England decided to alter the existing boundaries of the Burnley seat to create a seat which lies entirely within, and co-terminous to, the boundaries of the Burnley district. All the current electoral wards of Burnley council are within the parliamentary constituency.
