Burnside Country Fire Service covers many of the suburbs of Adelaide, as well as the hills face, including Mt Osmond. Burnside CFS most often Responds with the Paid MFS service at Glen Osmond (Glen Osmond 441), this gives their brigade a higher level of professionalism. Often when the MFS are overloaded in town, Glen Osmond MFS goes to town and Burnside takes over their Station until the 441 Returns. Burnside responds to Road Crash Rescues, grass/rubbish/house fires, floods, and even saving people who have fallen over on walking trails in the Hills.

Pump: PTO (Direct Drive from Engine) + Secondary Pump.

Crew: Driver, Officer (In Cabin), 4 Fire Fighters in rear. Not in the cabin

History: Commissioned in 1984, Used to be "Burnside 32"

This appliance is up for replacement having reached the end of its 20 year life. Burnside are currently locked in negotiations with the state over its replacement. Burnside wish to (and have the funds to) purchase a heavy pumper of similar urban capability. The state however wishes to supply a more rural type appliance as occurred when a neighbouring pumper at Belair was replaced. A heavy pumper would be better suited to Burnside's area then a rural appliance. Heavy pumpers provide increased pumping capacity, larger locker space, and are better configured for working on urban roads. A heavy pumper would also provide Burnside better interoperability with the MFS which use Burnside for area coverage during major incident on the Adelaide plains.

State HAZMAT

This is a special vehicle. It is Hazardous Materials response truck. Responding to such jobs that pose a threat to people like, gas spills, chemical leaks and even explosive materials. see Hazmat It contains gas suits, splash suits, BA (Breathing Apparatus), and Gas detection equipment. As this is the only truck of its type in South Australia its response area is as vast as down south in Mount Gambier to up North in Woomera. For more information see [Burnside CFS HAZMAT]

Response Area

Burnside responds to many regions when required. Burnside's specific response area extends along the foothills from Urrbrae to Skye, taking in much of Cleland Conservation Park. It is also responds to incidents on the Adelaide-Crafers Highway, primarily attending incidents on the uptrack - Stirling CFS attends to the downtrack.

Recent Events

Burnside CFS responds to many different types of calls. Nearly any situation where the community is in need. But as well as that Burnside CFS also aids the community but not just by saving their lives.

Edge Bus Roll

Edge Bus Roll: Half way down

A joint collaboration between the CFS, Adelaide UNI, SES, South Australian Police, Channel Nine and South Australian Ambulance resulted in a donated bus rolling down a quarry face for Research. The Adelaide University crash Investigation Unit wanted to test the strength of a bus, and decided to roll it down a hill (Quarry). The roll occurred on a Saturday, then on the Sunday a mock rescue was setup for the CFS and Ambulance to test the situation.

The incident was a success. All the people (dummies in this case) would have died although if they were wearing seat belts they would of lived. For the Sunday mock rescue the people were alive, although hurt and screaming. The majority of the ‘actors’ were Burnside CFS members.

The Burnside CFS's part in the event was on the Saturday to provide Fire cover for the bus, although the Bus was filled with cordial not diesel. Just in case the CFS was there.

Bridgestone Add

Burnside Tanker Aiding in making rain

Burnside CFS was asked by a film company in Adelaide to aid them in the production of the add that was being made for Bridgestone Tyre company. Burnside used 'Burnside Pumper' and 'Burnside Tanker' to do the job of providing rain. As the add was filmed on a rainy night the company need rain and a wet environment. Both of which were provided by Burnside CFS.
