Busch Beer

Encyclopedia : B : BU : BUS : Busch Beer

Busch Beer (originally known as Busch Bavarian Beer) was introduced in 1955 by St. Louis, Missouri-based Anheuser-Busch, and was distributed mainly in the Midwestern and Southeastern parts of the United States during its early years. When it went national in 1979, the word "Bavarian" was permanently dropped from its name, making it known as the current name of Busch Beer. In the late 1980s, Busch Light was introduced to the public. Today, Busch Beer is best known for its "Head For the Mountains" slogan, which has been used since the late 1970s.

Busch slots in the Anheuser-Busch lineup below "premium" beers like Budweiser and Michelob and above "economy" beers like Natural Light. It is a typical American Lager with a taste similar to Miller High Life and Coors, against whom it competes. It lacks the unique taste of Budweiser, which means it does not compete directly with its stablemate for drinkers.

Busch beer is a major NASCAR sponsor. It is the primary sponsor of the second tier Grand National series which is called the Busch Grand National series or simply the Busch Series. After the retirement of "Winston Cup" in favor "Nextel Cup", Busch became the oldest existing name for a cup series.
