C.E.R.E.S. is an organization that uses financial investment to advance socially responsible and environmentally sustainable goals. It promotes corporate donations and socially responsible behavior. It has created its own guidelines for disclosure of achievement of these goals.
The Ceres Principles
C.E.R.E.S. formed in 1989 in response to the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska. They created a 10-point set of principles for corporate environmental responsibility called the Valdez Principles, which were later renamed the Ceres Principles. The Ceres Principles are:1. Protection of the Biosphere
2. Sustainable Use of Natural Resources
3. Reduction and Disposal of Waste
4. Energy Conservation
5. Risk Reduction
6. Safe Products and Services
7. Environmental Restoration
8. Informing the Public
9. Management Commitment
10. Audits and Reports
