CBS Marketwatch was the brand name of MarketWatch Inc -- formerly MarketWatch.com Inc. -- which was operated in partnership with Viacom's CBS News. Once a publicly traded company, MarketWatch had been 45% owned by Viacom and Pearson PLC before Dow Jones acquired it in January 2005 for over $500 million. It is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dow Jones. MarketWatch is part of Dow Jones' Consumer Media Group, along with The Wall Street Journal, Barron's Magazine, [the WSJ.com] and affiliated Internet properties.
MarketWatch operates a leading business news and information Website that provides up-to-the-minute headline news, analysis and stock market data to some 6 million people. MarketWatch offers personal finance news and advice, tools for investors and access to industry research. Along with its award-winning flagship Website http://www.marketwatch.com, the company operates BigCharts.com and the stock market simulation site [VirtualStockExchange.com]. MarketWatch produces the syndicated MarketWatch Weekend television program and provides radio updates every 30 minutes on the MarketWatch.com Radio Network. It also offers subscription products for individual investors, including the Hulbert Financial Digest suite of products, Retirement Weekly and ETF Trader.
