CCleaner (full name is "Crap Cleaner") is a freeware software optimization and privacy application for Microsoft Windows. It removes many unused, invalid, or files that take up space or contain personal information. It can also clean traces of online activities such as your Internet history. CCleaner usually takes a few seconds to run on most computer systems.
It cleans the MRU, temporary files and data from several applications.
As of version 1.27, CCleaner is bundled with the Yahoo! Toolbar (with the option to not install the Yahoo! Toolbar). The inclusion of the toolbar created some controversy as some users objected to it.
In 2005 users reported that McAfee VirusScan had mistakenly identified CCleaner as a computer virus or components relating to it.
In November 2005 the project administrator known as Mr. G announced a partnership with friends to form a company named Piriform, which will initially focus on further improving his current software title, CCleaner, and has expressed interest in creating a new project with the group.
