CG artwork

Encyclopedia : C : CG : CGA : CG artwork

CG means either computer graphics or computer-generated. CG is a term often used on Japanese webpages to denote artwork. It can refer to digitally made artwork, digital effects, Vector graphics or simply hand drawn art saved on a computer. Popular subjects include anime, manga, and video game characters, as well as original characters in this style of drawing.

CG artists will typically display their artwork in one or more galleries, to give the viewer a feel of their art style. This can be used as a tool to get hired by a company, sell manga or doujinshi, or art books and art CDs full of images the artist has drawn.

Typical CG webpages will have a section describing the style of art contained on the site, previous works, sample images, and links to other CG pages.

Several US artists have adopted this style of presentation, but it is much more prolific in Japan, where all types of anime and manga subgenres are represented. Unfortunately, many images are used without the artist's permission and added to pay sites, where the viewer often has no idea where the artwork originated.

Nowadays it's also common to see non-manga/anime CGs.
