|} CLANNAD (クラナド) is a computer adventure game (visual novel) created by the company Key, who also produced the successful titles AIR and 'Kanon. Key announced a release date of 2002 in 2001 and, after postponing the release several times, CLANNAD was finally released on April 28, 2004. According to Jun Maeda, the main scenario writer of CLANNAD, the title means "family" or "clan" in Irish.
Both of Key's previous works, like most bishōjo games, had been released first as adult (ecchi) games, which were then followed by censored versions for younger players. In spite of this, CLANNAD was released only as an all-ages game, which led to a certain amount of disappointment among fans of Key's adult works. Partly in reaction to this, an adult sequel-of-sorts, , was released in 2005.
Story
Tomoya Okazaki is a year 3 high school student who dislikes his life. Everything seems to be unchanging for his school life until he meets Nagisa, and Tomoya finds that his life is about to change.Characters

- The game's protagonist. Because of his habits of always arriving late to school and skipping classes in the day and returning home late at night, he is considered as a delinquent by many. Ever since his mother, Atsuko Okazaki, died in a car crash when he was young, Tomoya has been living with his father, Naoyuki Okazaki, whom he isn't very fond of.
- The main heroine of the game. Although she attends the same grade as Tomoya, Nagisa is actually one year older because she has repeated her third year after an illness that lasted nine months. Met with Tomoya on the first day returning to school at the long slopeway in front of school. She has a habit of uttering the names of 'food that she plans to eat' to herself in order to motivate herself. Wants to reestablish the once-disbanded theatre club.
- Nagisa`s father. Although he often talks in a rude tongue and plays nasty tricks, he is really very kind and sympathetic. Having a childish side, he is the kind of character which people find it easy to befriend. He runs the Furukawa Bakery with his wife, Sanae. Has a hobby of playing baseball with children in the small park next to the bakery whenever he's free from work.
- Nagisa`s mother. Normally being very childish and a cry-baby, however at times of need she can be very strong willed and depended upon. Runs the Furukawa Bakery with her husband, Akio. She often uses strange concepts to make new kinds of bread that are anything but edible, those never get sold. She's quite proud of the way people often mistaken her as Nagisa's older sister because of her youthful appearance. Besides the work in the bakery, she also opens a private classroom for children.
- Tomoya`s bad friend. He entered the school via sport recommendation in soccer, but was kicked out from soccer club because of involving in a fight. After this incident he became so lazy and self-giving-up. He and Tomoya are known as the "Dirty Pair" in school.
- Youhei`s younger sister. Worried about his brother`s situation, she comes from country to the town to visit him. She likes Youhei as a brother very much. Mei is a smart girl and likes to see new things.
- Schoolmate of Tomoya. She is a first year student. Fuuko is always being alone by herself, making woodcraft with a small knife and gives to other people as present. When she is making woodcraft, she will totally concentrate on it without noticing status nearby her.
- Elder sister of Fuuko. Being the art teacher of Tomoya`s school, she treats everyone kindly. Kouko is one of the familiar faces in Furukawa Bakery, and Nagisa admires her very much. Currently she is engaged with Yuusuke Yoshino.
- Graduated senior of Tomoya. An electrical engineer who was once a rock musician. Therefore, he sometimes roar full with his soul of rock. Mei is his fans of music. Currently he is engaged with Kouko Ibuki.
- Tomoya`s schoolmate. In second year she was Tomoya`s classmate too, she is now in third year and is the classleader of her class. Kyou has a bad mouth and is very troublesome . She also cooks very well.
- Tomoya`s classmate and classleader. She is the younger Fujibayashi twins. Differs from her elder sister, she is passive-minded, and doesn’t cook well. Ryou is very keen in fortune telling, but her foretelling results have never been accurate.
- Tomoya`s schoolmate. As a third year student, she is the number one throughout the whole country in school result. She always go to library to read extra materials especially books in foreign language. Kotomi is a very silent girl and quite difficult to communicate with her.
- She transferred to Tomoya`s school as second year student in spring. There is a story about her which she was a very fierce girl in her school before and has records of fighting. Although Tomoya is her senior, Tomoyo just doesn’t behave like a junior in front of him. She has a younger brother named Takafumi (鷹文). Tomoyo is also the female protagonist of .
Yukine Miyazawa 宮澤 有紀寧 ( voice : Atsuko Enomoto )
- A second year student who always appear in library`s data room. She is a living database with knowing all the information about the school and the town. Yukine is very polite. She calls Tomoya as 'senior'.
- Teacher of language in Tomoya`s school. Seeing on his steady look, it`s hard to imagine that he was once a very enthusiastic teacher before. He had taught Kouko Ibuki long time ago.
- Youhei`s hostel master. She is the chairman of student committee when she was a high school student. Misae has a good relationship with the hostel students, while she is strict to the hostel law.
- A 19-year-old mysterious youngster who is traveling around. Referring to his word, his aim of life is [to live like a man].
- Tomoya`s father. After Tomoya`s mother died, he raised young Tomoya all by himself, but lives with self-giving-up minded.
- Tomoya`s mother. She died in a car accident when Tomoya is still young.
- Tomoya`s grandmother, Naoyuki`s mother.
- Tomoya and Nagisa's daughter.
The CLANNAD movie
A CLANNAD movie, animated by Toei (the same team who worked on the Kanon anime and AIR movie) is scheduled to air in year 2007, directed by the same director of AIR movie, Osamu Dezaki.See also
