-->"La Caida de Edgar" (spanish for "Edgar's Fall") is a video that shows how a mexican kid falls into a river after he tries to cross it by walking through a log that is being moved by his cousin Fernando.
A boy named Raul, who is thought to be Edgar's cousin, uploaded the video to internet website "You Tube" [link], where it became extremely famous, being one of the most watched videos from countries all over the world.
What made the video so famous was the fact that people loved Edgar. Watchers thought it was very funny to see how this kid falls into a river and starts yelling many bad words at his mean cousin, who had made him fall just seconds before. A perfect mix of his reaction and his unique northern accent made people fall in love with Edgar, as he rapidly got a lot of fans from all places and ages.
Media attention
On a matter of days, Edgar's instant fame caught the attention of the media. He was featured in mexican newspaper "El Reforma" [link] and local newspaper at his native city Monterrey, "El Norte" [link]. Also, the story was aired on national television on TV Azteca's news show "Hechos", among others.Aside from this, an unofficial website about Edgar went online, where people could watch the famous video and a few alternate versions. Along with that, the site offered two remixes, a ringtone, a fans list and even a game where players had to help Edgar cross the river by avoiding different obstacles, such as mexican alleged murderer, Diego Santoy.
Some fans are actually thinking about voting for Edgar in the next mexican presidential elections this July 2nd, 2006.
