Encyclopedia : C : CA : CAL : California High School Speech Association
The California High School Speech Association organizes forensic competitions in the state of California. While not directly linked to the National Forensic League (e.g., winning the CHSSA championship tournament will not qualify one to the NFL national championships), it sponsors competition in all of the standard NFL events. It also adds a few events not sponsored by the NFL, namely, Thematic Interpretation, Original Prose and Poetry, Original Advocacy, Oratorical Interpretation, Expository Speaking, and Parliamentary Debate.
CHSSA is divided into four areas which combine various leagues. In area one:
- Golden Gate Speech Association (G.G.S.A.)
- Coastal Forensics League (C.F.L.)
- Southern Valley
- Yosemite Forensic League
- Sacramento Valley
- Mar Monte
- [Western Bay Forensic League (WBFL)]
- S.C.D.L.
- [Tri-Valley Forensic League (TVFL)]
- S.D.I.V.S.L.
- Citrus Belt Speech Region
- Orange County Speech League
