Calyon is Crédit Agricole's corporate and investment banking entity. Calyon was created in May 2004 by the transfer of Crédit Lyonnais' Corporate and Investment Banking division to Crédit Agricole Indosuez.

Backed by Credit Agricole S.A.’s credit ratings and financial solidity, Calyon is positioned as a major player in financial markets and among Europe’s leading corporate and investment banks by revenues.

With a staff of 11,000 employees in [more than 60 countries], Calyon is active in a broad range of capital markets, investment banking and financing activities.

Calyon maintains five offices in the U.S. They are New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Houston. Calyon New York is the primary U.S. branch, and Calyon Houston specializes in providing key financing for the Energy sector.

Calyon is reaffirming its rapid growth ambitions in Europe. In the rest of the world, Calyon adopts a targeted approach to development, geared to local markets, their potential and the needs of local customers.

Its activities are grouped into two major divisions: the Capital Markets & Investment Banking Division and the Financing Division.

Capital Markets and Investment banking

The capital markets division covers all aspects of the trading and sale of both standard and structured capital markets products.

Its client coverage staff operates out of thirty trading rooms and is organised into four business lines:

Equity brokerage activities are handled by three subsidiaries, i.e., [Cheuvreux] in Europe, [Calyon Financial] in the US and CLSA in Asia.

The Investment Banking business combines corporate advisory activities with the Equity Capital Markets (ECM) unit, which deals with equity operations and the structuring of equity derivatives.

Financing

This segment deals with structured finance, syndication, cash management services and commercial banking.

  • The Structured Finance activity consists in originating, structuring, and financing operations in France and abroad relating to large-scale exports, investment, often backed by assets and securities (projects, aircraft, shipping, corporate real estate, raw materials...), as well as complex and structured loans.
  • Calyon is one of the leading players in the syndicated loan market, which has seen rapid growth in the last three years. Calyon ranked second MLA in France and 7th bookrunner in the EMEA region in 2004 (Dealogic).
  • Calyon has developed a comprehensive cash management offer encompassing a full range of account structures and cash concentration techniques, as well as state-of-the-art electronic banking solutions: the Optimum6 range.
  • Commercial banking activities are of strategic importance to Calyon, together with the expansion of its investment banking services.
