Cambridge is a federal and provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1979, and in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1975. Its population in 2001 was 119,140.

Geography

The district consist of the city of Cambridge, Ontario and the Township of North Dumfries, Ontario.

History

The federal electoral district was created in 1976 and consisted of the city of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries. In 1987, part of the city of Kitchener was added to the district. In 1996, the boundaries were redrawn again to include a slightly different section of Kitchener. The current boundaries, which are the same as the original definition, were defined in 2003.

The provincial electroal district was created before the 1975 provincial election. For the 1987, 1990 and 1995 elections, Cambridge included the City of Cambridge, as well as that part of North Dumfries found east of the city. Afterwards, the riding had the same boundaries as the federal district.
