Camden County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population was 37,051. Its county seat is Camdenton6. The county was organized in 1841 as Kinderhook County and renamed in 1843, for Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, Chancellor of England, and leader of the Whig Party.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,836 km² (709 mi²). 1,697 km² (655 mi²) of it is land and 139 km² (54 mi²) of it (7.58%) is water.Adjacent counties

As of the census² of 2000, there were 37,051 people, 15,779 households, and 11,297 families residing in the county. The population density was 22/km² (57/mi²). There were 33,470 housing units at an average density of 20/km² (51/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.68% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 0.93% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 15,779 households out of which 23.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.80% were married couples living together, 6.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.40% were non-families. 23.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.68.
In the county the population was spread out with 20.30% under the age of 18, 6.10% from 18 to 24, 23.30% from 25 to 44, 31.40% from 45 to 64, and 19.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 100.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $35,840, and the median income for a family was $40,695. Males had a median income of $28,020 versus $20,825 for females. The per capita income for the county was $20,197. About 8.00% of families and 11.40% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.00% of those under age 18 and 7.70% of those age 65 or over.
