Camp Adventure is a program run by the University of Northern Iowa that sends US college students to US Military bases throughout the world. These students run daycamps and act as lifeguards for the children of military personnel stationed on bases.
The camp counsellors are trained in games, first aid, as well as how to deal with the problems that many military children have, due to the isolation, frequent moves, and dangerous profession of their parents.
The counsellors train for several months at the University of Northern Iowa, before being sent to the bases for several months during the summer. Students are responsible for their own passports and visas, but transportation, room, and board are provided by the program. An extensive background check is performed on all counsellor applicants.
