Encyclopedia : C : CA : CAN : Canada's Sports Hall of Fame
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame is a Hall of Fame located in Toronto and established in 1955 to "preserve the record of Canadian sports achievements and to promote a greater awareness of Canada's heritage of sport"[link].
It was located on the grounds of Exhibition Place (1955-2006) (Canadian National Exhibition), and was the joint home (1961-1993) of the NHL sponsored Hockey Hall of Fame, before the Hockey Hall's move to its present location in the downtown core. In 2006, the Hall of Fame museum closed and is currently looking to relocate to a new location. The building is being torn down to make room for the new National Soccer Stadium at Exhibition Place.
As of June 2004, there were 436 inductees.
