Canigou (Catalan Canigó) is a mountain in southern France. It is located in Northern Catalonia.
See also Martin-du-Canigou monastery.
At its top the mount Canigó has 2.784 m. Due to its sharp flanks and its situation in between high mountains and plateus it was accidentally believed to be the highest mountain in the Pyrenees.
It inspired the collection of songs called Canigó, which all begin with the (Catalan words) "Muntanyes de Canigó, fresques són i regalades", like the poem [Canigó] by Verdaguer.
