Cannery Row (novel)
Encyclopedia : C : CA : CAN : Cannery Row (novel)
Cannery Row is a 1945 novel by John Steinbeck.
Cannery Row is in many senses a forgotten Steinbeck novel due to its less than ambitious credentials, it is however one of his finest. The novel is based in the eponymous Cannery Row, and is less of a novel and more of a collection of short stories regarding the various residents. To use the opening lines "Cannery row in Monterey in Calfornia is a poem, a stink, a grating noise, a tone, a habit, a nostalgia, a dream", and so is Steinbeck's novel.
