Cantina is a Spanish word meaning "place of singing" (derives from cantar which means "to sing"). The connotation to English speakers is one of a bar, yet it does not always have to be a place of drinking.

Some bars serve food or may be parts of restaurants. Bars that are part of hotels are sometimes called long bars. Alternatively, "bar" can refer to the specialized counter on which the drinks are served, and it is from this term that the establishment itself as a whole gets its name. The "back bar" is a (sometimes ornate) set of shelves of glasses and bottles behind that counter. There are cantinas in the fictional Star Wars Universe. Drinks are served in these bars, and often Twi'lek female slaves are bought in order to dance on stages. Live bands usually perform music in cantinas. It's the cantina in Mos Eisley where Han Solo, Chewbacca and Obi Wan Kenobi with Luke Skywalker meet the first time. A common misconception is that George Lucas invented the word.In Star Wars Galaxies, cantinas are to be found in almost every major city. They allow users who are trained in the Entertainer class to perform to other people for entertainment and also to heal their mind pool.
