Carlos Solis is a fictional character on the ABC television series Desperate Housewives. The character is played by actor, Ricardo Antonio Chavira.
History
Carlos Solis: the husband of Gabrielle who has some trouble with the law and a very meddling mother. Carlos wants to begin a family, so much so that he secretly replaced his wife's birth control pills with sugar pills since Gabrielle is against the idea of getting pregnant. Due to apparent financial difficulties, Carlos took a plea bargain which forces him to serve eight months in jail; separately, he was going to be tried in two hate crimes against two gay men (the family cable guy & Justin) whom he thought were having affairs with Gabrielle. Gabrielle originally refused to get him off doing extra time after finding out it was him who messed with her birth control, but then she decided to blackmail him into taking complete care of the baby in exchange for her testimony. After the loss of the baby, Carlos managed an early parole by seeking aid from a program designed for Catholic inmates. Through the program, Carlos made the acquaintance of a nun by the name of Sister Mary Bernard, who has inspired him to live a more religious life. This invoked the jealousy of Gabrielle, because the Sister is "a knockout", by Gabrielle's admission, and also because she seems to be convincing Carlos to resent Gabrielle. Sister Mary had invited Carlos to accompany her to Botswana, and he accepted at first. When he went to the doctor for his physical examination and vaccinations in preparation for the trip, he left Gabrielle to finish the questionnaire for him, on which she neglected to mention his allergy to eggs. This resulted in Carlos becoming sick from an allergic reaction caused by one of the vaccines, forcing him to stay home with Gabrielle.
