The College of Humanities and Social Science at Carnegie Mellon University houses the Economics, English, History, Information Systems, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Psychology, Social and Decision Sciences, and Statistics departments.

The Social and Decision Sciences department is best known for two of its programs. The Economics sub-department, which has produced six Nobel laureates in Economics: Robert Lucas Jr, Merton Miller, Franco Modigliani, Herbert Simon, Finn E. Kydland and Edward Prescott. The Information Systems program is regarded as one of the best in its field for its unique teaching method which includes systems design and human-computer interaction.
